Captureshot has shut down
A brief history
When we implemented the first version of Captureshot in early 2010, it then was called "Yupstock" (goofy, we know) and was a sketch of a better commercial image search interface. The idea quickly evolved into making a better search engine, and Captureshot was born.
We aggregated metadata for about 20 million stock images before attempting to make deals with agencies who crowd-source their images. We quickly found out they did not like to have their images compared; they had trouble getting exclusivity for images and could each be selling the same images at different price points.
Instead we spun-off into a "traditional" royalty-free image agency, building in-house all necessary software for the business. We started as a technology company but were never thrilled about making sales the way its made in a mature B2B market.
Winning
We did not win the market and we have moved on.
That said, I think we did come out winners. We've met incredible people along the way, including:
- incredibly talented photographers
- stock photo agencies who trusted us with 100's of gigabytes of their images
- veterans who attempted to discourage us from getting into this market, in vain
- the few customers we have interacted with
- many more friendly people this business involves
Thank you, its been a wild ride. It was fun for us, and we hope we have been useful to you.
Thank you for using our software, we wish you all the best. As always, if you need anything, please drop us an email at contactus@captureshot.com
